PROTOTYPE
2023

This series of ceramic sculptures is born from a synthesis of observation and interpretation, and encapsulates the essence of life's marvels, portraying the intricate dialogue between organic elements and
the human imagination.
Crafted with an appreciation for the inherent irregularities present in nature, the pieces in 'Prototypes' celebrate the authentic, imperfect beauty that defines life's cycles. As trees reach towards the sky, bones support the body, and microorganisms teem with vitality, these ceramic forms echo the universal principles that bind all living things.
The sculptures invite viewers to engage with the tactile details, prompting contemplation of the universal principles that govern the living. As 'Prototypes' stands as an ode to the cyclical nature of existence, the porous boundaries between creation and dissolution,
adaptation and transformation become a source of inspiration.
In this series, the intimate connection between observer and the environment is highlighted, urging viewers to reflect on their own place within the grand tapestry of nature.
'Prototypes' serves as a visual meditation, inviting contemplation of the profound beauty that emerges from the genesis of life, encapsulated in the ceramic embodiment of organic symphonies.

FIGURE
STUDY
2019

Figure Study was created based on my own journey of exploring outdoors. Each stone was picked from different locations during travel.

Fascinated by the nature character of the stones, 8 cups was created as an understanding of each stone.

The study of each character of the stones representing my curiosity of all nature elements and a reminder of never stop wandering and exploring the interconnection between what we see and what we know.

AFTER ALL
WE
ALL
GREEN
2019

After All We All Green is a collection of planters, each taking on the form of a human body and adorned with colors reflective of our diverse skin tones.

This body of work purposefully blurs the lines between humanity and nature, serving as a poignant reminder that, beneath our differences in skin color, origins, and actions, we share a common environment. In the end, we all return to the Earth, seamlessly becoming part of the natural world, just as we always have. This series challenges us to contemplate our unity with the environment, transcending the boundaries that often divide us, and acknowledging our collective destiny of returning to the Earth.

ONGOING
2018
This series of work is a representation of my own growth as a ceramic designer, particularly my experience at Sheridan. They reflect my design process as well as the concept I’m working towards.
By manipulating the object’s design - changing angles, lines, colours or textures – it will contain special emotions that may later be felt by the audience or user. Thus building a connection between them, the object and myself as a maker.

Keeping a balance between various perspectives is what design means to me. It is also make me find the balance between being a maker and designer.

MIRRORs
2017
- growing, lost, redefine

Inspired by ancient Chinese bronze mirrors, my ceramic mirrors speak to my journey as Chinese in Canada. It’s about growing, getting lost and redefining myself.

In the dim and blurred reflection of the mirror, I’m looking at myself as a person and ceramic maker looking for one of our deepest desires - clarity.

Who am I?
Where do I come from?
Where do I belong to?

Clay has bound me to Canada. I’ve chosen to work with Earthenware because to me it is local and where I’m standing now. In ancient China a round shape
is seen as a form that symbolises perfection, reunion and bliss. The Flower of Life is a universal pattern containing not only beauty in its aesthetic, but also speaking to life growing.

Along with the growing of the flower, I am growing in this land.
