"if you're part of the society and you're one drop in the society river, you might decide to go the other way, but this doesn't make the river change, we constrain one another, through our collective culture."

We explore the relationship between the elements of nature as well as how humans interact with nature. This exhibition also reflects how people, as the fabric of society, in relation to one another are treasures on our own.

Inspired by ancient Chinese philosophy and literature, the exhibition explores the relationships between reality and imagination, time and environment, space and individuality. Excerpting from 11Moonlight in the Lotus Pond11 by renowned Chinese poet and essayist Zhu Ziqing 朱自清, each piece pays homage to Zhu's delicately vivid imagery. We're inviting audiences to enter an experience akin to a late summer night by the water ...

"The most lively creatures here, for the moment, must be the cicadas in

the trees and the frogs in the pond. But the liveliness is theirs, I have nothing."

We try to recognize small nature elements hidden in our surroundings,

and place them together through a curated lens in the narrative.

Can a river be formed by a single drop of water?

Are we anything without each other?

Figure Study was created based on my own journey of exploring outdoors. Each stone was picked from different locations during travel.

Fascinated by the nature character of the stones, 8 cups was created as an understanding of each stone.

The study of each character of the stones representing my curiosity of all nature elements and a reminder of never stop wandering and exploring the interconnection between what we see and what we know.

AFTER ALL

WE

ALL

GREEN

2019

After All We All Green is a collection of planters, each taking on the form of a human body and adorned with colors reflective of our diverse skin tones.

This body of work purposefully blurs the lines between humanity and nature, serving as a poignant reminder that, beneath our differences in skin color, origins, and actions, we share a common environment. In the end, we all return to the Earth, seamlessly becoming part of the natural world, just as we always have. This series challenges us to contemplate our unity with the environment, transcending the boundaries that often divide us, and acknowledging our collective destiny of returning to the Earth.

This series of work is a representation of my own growth as a ceramic designer, particularly my experience at Sheridan. They reflect my design process as well as the concept I’m working towards.

By manipulating the object’s design - changing angles, lines, colours or textures – it will contain special emotions that may later be felt by the audience or user. Thus building a connection between them, the object and myself as a maker.

Keeping a balance between various perspectives is what design means to me. It is also make me find the balance between being a maker and designer.

- growing, lost, redefine

Inspired by ancient Chinese bronze mirrors, my ceramic mirrors speak to my journey as Chinese in Canada. It’s about growing, getting lost and redefining myself.

In the dim and blurred reflection of the mirror, I’m looking at myself as a person and ceramic maker looking for one of our deepest desires - clarity.

Who am I?

Where do I come from?

Where do I belong to?

Clay has bound me to Canada. I’ve chosen to work with Earthenware because to me it is local and where I’m standing now. In ancient China a round shape

is seen as a form that symbolises perfection, reunion and bliss. The Flower of Life is a universal pattern containing not only beauty in its aesthetic, but also speaking to life growing.

Along with the growing of the flower, I am growing in this land.
