Continuing developing the patterns, one of the challenging I been facing is to create the sharp thin line on the pot. Which traditionally, pottery will inlay the thin line on the surface. (Show in picture 1.) But my goal is to create the similar quality line that go through clay instead of the surface.

To exploration, I came up with this idea to wrap the clay with thin layers of different colour slabs, here I’m using white clay wrapped by black clay slab.

The final result not exactly as I expected, the problem is the stretching of the slab widen the lines. For further development, I’m planning using the slip to create even more thinner lines. Also the slip will help with solving the problem I have when trying to bonding the sections together.
Attached is the website of a Japanese ceramic artist TETSUYA ISHIYAMA, his old work have explored the bondary between materials and also using traditional technique combine with new form and designs.
